The Ecological Consequences of Meat ConsumptionThe worldwide meat production continues to increase1990: 170 mio. tons 1994: 194 mio. tons 1997: 210 mio. tons 1999: 217 mio. tons 2003: 253 mio. tons Although the consumption of meat in industrialised countries has been decreasing for years, consumption globally has continued to grow. In 2003, 253 million tons of meat were produced worldwide. Meat production has more than doubled since 1970. Switzerland alone makes up 600,000 tons of this. This has enormous ecological consequences that unfortunately have received very little attention up to now...
