Brethren in blood Japan and Norway: Whales turned into burgers -

the scandal goes on

In an attempt to revive a dying industry, Norway and Japan have begun to market "fast food" whale products, with whalers hoping to cash in on their governments' stated intentions to dramatically increase quotas in the coming years.

For example, despite the IWC moratorium on commercial whaling, Norway awarded itself a quota of 796 minke whales for 2005, and the government has announced that it could increase the number by as much as three times in future. This move towards increasing whaling and "fast food" products comes despite concerns about the health risk posed by pollution in whale meat ...
