India: Big poacher caged

The country hopes to have relief from poachers in the times ahead.

The man with over 40 cases, registered against him under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, in different states of India, convicted-sentenced for 5 years term in April, 2004 and then absconding for about a year after being released on parole and jumping, is ultimately in the police net in Delhi. The Delhi police had been working hard to arrest Mr. Sansar Chand for the last three months, Delhi Police Commissioner K K Paul told a press conference on 30th June.

Mr. Sansar Chand is being defined as the most wanted animal killer and smuggler in India and allegedly had a major role in the disappearance of tigers in the national parks, including Sariska.

He was first caught at the age of 16 in Sept. 1974 with tiger, 676 lizard, otter, black leopard, mountain leopard skins and then caught again in Nov. 1974 with 539 lizard and red fox skins.

In Feb. 1990 he was caught with tiger hide, 17 lizard skins and 30 kg (about 66 lbs) of tiger bones.
