Indian PM reaffirms to save tigersThe animal is part of national heritageThe disappearance of the tiger is a matter of National concern . All is not well with our National Parks. On his committed visit to Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan, the Indian Prime Minister went at length about his views on wildlife and saving tigers in a press conference at Ranthambore today. After meeting forest officials and villagers and spotting a tigress from a very short distance of about five feet (from a Safari with his wife), the PM told the media that although he is on a learning mission of the problems, he is serious about the problem and will be taking short term and long term steps to come out of the menace. Seeing the ensuing monsoon season at door when poaching is at maximum, he will be taking immediate steps to stop poaching. The nearby villagers have told the PM that forests are the part of their daily life for collecting wood etc. so restrictions on their access should not be imposed. They have also pleaded about the attacks by wild animals on their pet animals and sometimes on human beings. The PM is aware of the problems of population growth and squeezing forestery and as such has advised his newly constituted Task Force to come out with detailed report and suggestions in the next two days. It is now for sure that our soft spoken Prime Minister is going to do something concrete on the issue and may take some hard steps and that at the earliest possible.
