Sea Shepherd ship Farley Mowat has been chasing the Japanese fleetsince Christmas dayDecember 28, 2005 The fleet was scattered as of December 29th (Australian Eastern Summer Time) with no whales killed for a 4th day in a row. The Japanese ships are faster which means that the Farley Mowat must send out helicopter patrols when weather permits and plot interception courses. The weather has been extremely bad with strong winds and heavy seas. On Christmas Day we had our first confrontation with the Nisshin Maru when it tried to ram the Farley Mowat. Captain Watson ordered a mooring line over the stern to foul the Japanese propeller because they were heading for the Farley Mowat. As intended, the factory ship saw this, turned away at the last moment, and then sped into the fog at top speed. In an open letter to Greenpeace Japan, the Director General of the Institute for Cetacean Research has accused both Greenpeace and Sea Shepherd of piracy and eco-terrorism - you can read Captain Watson's response and read how the Whaling Debate is heating up in Antarctica. Thank you to those who have sent an email to the Prime Minister of Japan asking him to stop their illegal whaling activities and to advise him and his countrymen that the world is watching. If you haven't done so, you can send an email to him today. The Japanese fleet is running from Sea Shepherd. We are intent upon finding them once again and disrupting their operations for as long as our fuel and supplies hold out. As soon as find them, you will be among the first to know.
