Japan - Don't Force Whale Meat on SchoolchildrenJapan’s supposedly “scientific” whaling industry has been running at a loss for years. It costs Japan 60 million dollars a year to support a practice of no scientific value and not even any economic point. Rather than banning or even reducing its whaling industry, Japan is fervently trying to boost sales of an increasingly unpopular product. As demand for whale meat decreases, the government has decided to support the obviously commercial whaling operations by loosening regulations, allowing the meat to be sold directly to the public rather than through wholesalers. It also wants to increase the amount of whale meat supplied in school lunches...
