Japan: Over half of cetacean meat sold unfit for human consumptionDo consumers really know what they are eating?A study undertaken by three scientific institutions in 1999 suggests that over half the cetacean (whale, dolphin and porpoise) meat sold in Japan is so highly contaminated that it is unfit for human consumption, while a quarter is mis-labeled or misadvertised to the public. The study suggests that Japanese consumers of cetacean meat have a greater than 50/50 chance of eating highly contaminated meat, and greater than a one in four chance of eating a product that is mis-advertised...
