New hope for Europe’s animalsPRESS INFORMATIONBrussels, 17 October 2012 Eurogroup for Animals believes the resignation of Commissioner Dalli announced last night brings new hope for Europe’s animals. Many important decisions have been left in the air by Commissioner Dalli including maintaining the hard fought for ban on testing cosmetics on animals. Eurogroup therefore calls on Malta to present a new Commissioner as quickly as possible that will work to improve the welfare of all animals, in particular during transport, by strengthening and fully implementing the animal welfare strategy, adopt a robust animal health law, and introduce measures that will protect Europe’s pets. “The future for improving the welfare of animals starts today and we hope that the new Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection once appointed will act quickly and decisively to ensure that all outstanding legislation pays full regard to the welfare requirements of animals,” commented Veronique Schmit Executive Officer Policy at Eurogroup for Animals.
