Poisoned Dolphin Meat Threatens Japanese School ChildrenSea Shepherd News01/31/2008 The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society has been battling the dolphin slaughter in Japan since 1981. In 1982, Captain Paul Watson negotiated the shutting down of the dolphin drive at Iki Island, Japan. In 2003, Sea Shepherd exposed the horrific slaughter of dolphins at Taiji, Japan and two Sea Shepherd crew were arrested for diving into the Bay to cut the nets to free 15 dolphins. Every year since, Sea Shepherd has been sending crews to Japan to oppose the dolphin killing. It has been a long hard struggle to end this barbaric practice on Japanese beaches. Every year some 22,000 dolphins are cruelly slaughtered by Japanese fishermen. Now finally the dolphin kills have come under criticism from within Japan. It’s not that the Japanese public has expressed any sympathy for the suffering of the dolphins. The issue now is the poisoning of Japanese school children who are being fed mercury contaminated dolphin meat.......
