FAO opens new bird flu crisis unit

The UN food agency FAO has opened a new crisis unit to enable a rapid response to outbreaks of bird flu and other animal or plant diseases threatening human health.

"This will be a veritable firemen's brigade, operating seven days a week, 24 hours a day," said the head of the Food and Agriculture Organization's veterinary section, Joseph Domenech....
