USA/Chandler: Leading the Covance fight

The fight over a planned drug-testing laboratory in south Chandler is often dismissed by city and company officials as an ongoing feud between drug-testing giant Covance and the national animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

But a closer look reveals that the company's local resistance involves five middle-aged vegetarian women living in Chandler who juggle their activism with their work and duties as moms and grandmas.

"I would say we're upstanding citizens who own property here, who love it here and who care about our community," Jan McClellan said............
