Albania - Vegetarian Week 2011

The event on animal rights and plant based died took place on 05 October 2010 linking together World Farms Animal Day (2 October), World Animal Day (4 October), International Vegetarian Week 2011 (1-7 October). The seminar hosted participants from various fields such as academics, media, food authorities, different stakeholders, civil society, animal lovers and students.

The event was opened by IEP executive director, Mr. Edvin Pacara, who welcomed guests and presented the programme of the seminar, gave a short introduction on the topic of the activity and thanked the supporters which made this event possible.

IEP operative director, Mr. Endri Haxhiraj, continued with the first presentation on Animal Rights presenting a wide information about this issue in USA, Europe and finally in Albania. Several examples were given how to work on improving animal rights.

The floor was given to the participants. After the first session of the discussion the floor was given to the Mr. Edvin Pacara. He displayed the linkage of the vegetarian/ vegan diet and the improvement of the environment, the actual trends, statistics and suggestions.

Mrs. Kadri Aavik displayed many frequently asked questions (FAQ) for the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle, vegan experience, plant based recipes and other. The second session of discussion started and took most of the time.

The participants showed much interest and requested additional comments. Due to the limited time, the IEP staff suggested to continue discussion on the IEP forum *)

International Vegetarian Week leaflet, Animal Rights book and Vegetarian/ Vegan brochure were delivered to the participants.

The seminar concluded with an environmentally friendly cocktail and snack, with plant based recipes. The seminar lasted 2 hours and a half.
