Denmark: Government will ban breeding foxes

22 August 2008

The Danish minister of justice, Lene Espersen, has decided to ban the breeding of foxes. A year and a half ago new measures were taken to make fur production less inhumane but contrary to the intention of the law the conditions for foxes worsened.

There are 16 fox breeders in Denmark. They get 15 years to close down if breeding foxes is they main way of income. Part time breeders get 8 years.

The government doesn't want to pay compensation hence the long period for closing down businesses.
