ACADEMY AWARD® WINNING FILMMAKERS TAKE EXTREME MEASURES TO PROTECT OCEANSOceanic Preservation Society Unveils “The Heist”August 30, 2012 Press Release Contact: Gina Papabeis (303) 444-2454 press@opsociety.org Oceanic Preservation Society (OPS), the Producers of the 2009 Academy Award® winning documentary The Cove, is launching a Kickstarter campaign to fuel their latest documentary film and activist operation “The Heist”. OPS is utilizing the innovative crowdsourcing approach to supplement their traditional fundraising efforts, while engaging a broad base of supporters with the making of the film. Departing from the confines of a traditional documentary, the film follows a group of unlikely activists as they carry out the drastic measures necessary for initiating cultural change while delivering a powerful message about the impact humanity is leaving on the planet. The OPS team will use revolutionary technologies and unconventional tactics to bring a voice to species on the brink of extinction. The genre bending action-adventure-doc is targeted for release in 2014. “We’re not trying to make a movie, we’re trying to start a movement,” says OPS Executive Director Louie Psihoyos. “We have a moral obligation to save these species, because we’re responsible for them blinking out.” The small team of filmmakers at the Oceanic Preservation Society is pleased to engage in its first grassroots film fundraising effort with fellow artists and innovators on Kickstarter.com. Producer Olivia Ahnemann says, “In addition to raising the funds needed to finish the film, we’re excited to invite our audience to follow the film through production and to join our mission.”
