Bill Would Require Labeling, Bigger Battery Cages and Enrichment

On June 18, 2012, the U.S. Senate decided not to vote on a measure that would create a uniform national standard for the housing and treatment of egg-laying hens, including replacing battery cages with larger, enriched cages. The bill would codify a July, 2011 compromise agreement between The Humane Society of the US and the United Egg Producers.

Animal advocates as well as agribusiness interests are divided on the bill...
