'...all a dog needs is love – which comes back multi-fold...'

Have you ever wondered what happens to a pedigree dog after it is too old to breed anymore? Well, if they are lucky enough to have a ‘merciful’ owner, they are brought to an animal shelter instead of tragically being starved to death or abandoned.

One morning in August 2006, a German Shepherd was found tied up right outside CUPA. She was about 10 years old and her dismal health condition – a displaced hip and her eroded teeth – made it evident that she had been owned by a breeder for the past several years. She was fostered by a volunteer for a few days until ardent animal lover, Mr. Vasudev Murthy, heard about the case. Vasudev visited her at the volunteer's home and immediately decided to adopt her.

Vasudev recalls feeling despair and anxiety – she was nothing but a bag of bones and very hesitant around humans...
