Applying Jewish Values To Help Heal The World

A SACRED DUTY

This powerful documentary addresses the environmental crisis now facing humanity. Under threat of climate change - with its potentially catastrophic impact - the film urges viewers to respond quickly to help shift our imperiled planet to a sustainable path.

The message of the film is founded upon the ancient teachings of the Torah and other Jewish scriptures, which have profound relevance today. The film includes numerous references to the sacred texts - read by acclaimed Broadway and screen actor, Theodore Bikel.

A SACRED DUTY aims to motivate positive action by applying Jewish teachings to how we use natural resources, care for our health, obtain our food, and live in peace among our fellow beings. This challenging film offers simple, practical measures for reducing our destructive impact on the planet, and shows why a shift toward plant-based diets is essential to reducing environmental degradation, maintaining human health and welfare and reducing the effects of large-scale animal agriculture on our planet. It goes on to address fundamental moral and ethical issues related to our diets, including how animals are mistreated on factory farms.

The one-hour production was inspired by the writings of renowned vegetarian activist and mathematician Prof. Richard H. Schwartz, and produced by multi-award-winning documentarian, Lionel Friedberg. The film includes compelling scenes shot worldwide and features leading Israeli and American environmentalists, medical authorities, educators, social activists and animal rights experts. It includes brief statements from Orthodox, Conservative, Reform and Reconstructionist rabbis, as well as secular leaders.

While primarily using Jewish sources and interviews of Jewish leaders, the movie has a universal message and is
ideal for showing to all audiences, religious denominations and age groups. The film is highly compelling to anyone interested in biblical teachings, the environment, diet, nutrition, human health and animal welfare.
