A true story: Five bulls were about to be killed at a butcher's slaughterhouse,

The bulls escaped the slaughterhouse and ran to Lama Kunzang's monastery and refused to leave

This letter comes to you from the office of Jangsa, a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, dedicated to saving animals from certain slaughter.

The founder of the Jangsa Animal Saving Trust ("Jangsa") is Lama Kunzang Dorjee. Jangsa was established several years ago after an amazing story unfolded.

Five bulls were about to be killed at a butcher's slaughterhouse. The bulls escaped the slaughterhouse and ran to Lama Kunzang's monastery and refused to leave. Overwhelmed by compassion, Lama Kunzang decided that from that day forward that he would protect these bulls and all other animals that he could from being killed.

Since that day, Lama Kunzang has had tremendous success in India and Bhutan. Presently, the trust maintains about 600 bulls, 40 yaks, 137 pigs, 23 sheep, 2 goats and 9 ducks in the western, eastern and northern regions of the Kingdom of Bhutan. There are also 10 goats, 2 buffaloes and 2 pigs cared for in a village near Kalimpong in the hills of West Bengal, India. A further 58 bulls have found a home in Siliguri, India. Finally, at Lama Kunzang's monastery in Kalimpong, 4 bulls and a cow have found refuge from being slaughtered.

In addition to his work for Jangsa, Lama Kunzang is a fully ordained monk who is in charge of 4 monasteries and hundreds of monks in Bhutan and India. Lama Kunzang was born into the Nyo lineage of Gyalwa Lhanangpa. Lama Kunzang studied for 13 years under H.H. Kyabje Dodrupchen Rinpoche and is considered his heart son. Lama also did a three year retreat under the guidance of H.H. Chatral Rinpoche.

The mission of Jangsa stems directly from Buddhist teachings of nonviolence and compassion. Lama Kunzang wants to spread this message of nonviolence and compassion all over the world.

Lama Kunzang and all of us at Jangsa believe strongly that animals have a right to life just as much as humans, that animals should not be killed, and that the preservation of life is one of the highest callings that man can have.

Lama Kunzang is planning to visit France, Spain and several parts of America in July, August, and September of this year to give speeches about the importance of saving the lives of animals and to learn more about how successful animal saving organizations run their operations.

Lama Kunzang would like to give free public talks on animal saving and/or series of seminars on compassion and buddhism to the sangha at centers all across the world. If desired, Lama would also be willing to lead pujas or give empowerments based on his Nyingma lineage.

He is traveling by himself, is a diabetic vegetarian, and speaks fluent English. I will pay for Lama's plane fare to and from each location in the U.S.

If you would like to be involved in Jangsa or in Lama Kunzang's efforts to save the lives of innocent animals around the world, please e-mail us at office@animalsavingtrust.org or visit Jangsa on the web at animalsavingtrust.org.

If you would like Lama Kunzang to participate in any gathering or if you would like to privately meet Lama Kunzang while he is in the US or if you would like him to give a public lecture or series of lectures on animal saving or the value of animals' lives, please e-mail us at above address.

Because Lama Kunzang uses virtually all of his personal funds and the funds of Jangsa to support his animal saving activities, it may be necessary to sponsor a portion of Lama's trip if you or your organization are not in a city already on his itinerary.

Lama Kunzang would like to sponser two to three people who would like to visit Bhutan as ambassadors for the cause of animal saving. If you or someone you know is interested in this possibility, please e-mail us at
office@animalsavingtrust.org.

If you would like to talk personally with Lama Kunzang about saving animals, the Jangsa Animal Saving Trust or about his visit, this is his contact information:
