Greenland Sled Dogs are abused in an unthinkable mannerThe Canadian Voice for Animals – Canada and CVFA-Argentina, are taking up the cause of the Greenland Sled Dogs that are abused in an unthinkable manner. The following words were in a letter from a Greenland representative: Mr.Paornánguaq Kleist, Section of Information P.O. Box 1015, 3900 Nuuk. Letters to Mr. Kleist can be sent to this address: PAKL@gh.gl This is an excerpt from his mail: “Sled dogs are an important part of Greenland’s cultural heritage. It is therefore of the utmost importance to stress that the abuse referred to in the Danish newspaper Ekstrabladet on 5 February 2007 is illegal under Greenland legislation on animal protection and keeping sled dogs. Greenland Home Rule condemns all forms of abuse of sled dogs.” This may sound impressive, but in actual fact it is nothing more than Governmental Redundant Rhetoric…in actual fact this is what is happening to the sled dog of Greenland. The situation with these poor dogs are about the same as I know alot of sled dogs are treated. In Greenland some aboriginals are keeping dogs in short chains without giving them food or water. The chief vet tells me 60 to 70 per cent of all dogs in Greenland (the total number is 21.000) are mistreated. They have no shelter in the winter or they get no food during the summer when the fishermen don't need them. Some dogs are put out on an island in the spring and are not brought back until fall - by then most of them are dead off course. Those who survive have eaten their mates. Some of the pictures show dogs that get their teeth removed with a hammer! Some places in Greenland people do that because they want to make sure the dogs can't bite their chain and run away....
